Eyelash extensions have gone a long way in the beauty industry. It is becoming more and more popular in recent years. As the demand is growing, many people have started their careers as professional lash artists. While the advantages of eyelash extensions are undeniable, they may be challenging to apply, particularly with lash beginners. Whether you’re just starting out as a lash artist or have been practicing for a long, this post is for you. We’ve compiled a list of our top three eyelash extension tips to help you achieve the perfect lash look every time.
1. Don’t forget to prepare and use pretreatment
Not only should you prepare the necessary tools and equipment for yourself such as the thermometer, glue holder, eye pads, and makeup remover,… but also you should prepare for your clients. There are a few things you have to let them know:
- Don’t drink coffee before the appointment
- Bringing along your mask
- Removing their makeup at home is recommended (If they are unable to commit to this step, request that they at least skip the waterproof mascara)
- Arrive on time for the appointment
In terms of pretreatment, if your clients wear makeup, it is critical to clean your clients’ natural eyelashes before applying the lash extensions. You can use a product called a primer to remove debris and residue from the lashes.
This process provides a clean, smooth foundation for the lashes to adhere to and last longer. Over time, products like cleansers and makeup removers can slowly weaken the glue, reducing the longevity of the extensions. You should minimize this risk by starting with a clean surface.
Even for people requiring infills, never rush this process.
2. Apply eye pads properly
They might be difficult to get into position the first time, but with some practice, they become a lot easier. If you’ve ever placed eye pads too close to your eyes, you’ll know that it can cause adverse reactions such as discomfort and irritation. If there’s one thing you should remember, it’s that eye pads should never touch the waterline (the line of skin between the eyelashes and the eye)
Incorrectly placed eye pads will slide off during the appointment and make it hard to isolate the lashes, meaning that your application will be inaccurate and the lashes will seem sloppy.
Our tip 1: Start with the inner corners of the eyes and lightly press down the rest of the eye line. Working from the inside corner will give you greater control over the pads’ placement.
Our tip 2: You should use hypoallergenic eye pads for clients who have sensitive eyes and skin
3. Have a map before going through the application
You must plan where you will place each individual lash to ensure that the final appearance is one that your clients will like. A map is vital for obtaining balance and symmetry, whether you’re performing a single layer of extensions or dealing with multiple layers. Maps allow you to select how long the lash length should be in each spot, allowing everything to flow together nicely. You may get the desired natural look by using a map and putting the longer lashes on the bottom layer and the shorter ones on top.
Lash mapping begins with locating the iris, or center of each eye (You can’t notice this if your client’s eyes are closed). As you find and mark this spot with a brow pencil or eyeliner, ask them to keep their eyes open.
