Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent procedures that can last up to a month if properly cared for. Gaining the necessary knowledge regarding lash extension aftercare can also help you save money as you don’t have to go to lash salons to have the new extension every 2 weeks.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF YOU DON’T TAKE CARE OF LASH EXTENSIONS PROPERLY?
- Lashes are easier to fall out: Both your extension and natural lashes will fall out faster if you don’t take after them properly. Read the following tips if you want to maintain a fluffy and voluminous lash look for a longer time
- Infection: Your lashes are in charge of preventing bacteria from getting into your eyes. If your lashes aren’t cleaned regularly, residue and dead skin will build up on your eye’s lid which can result in infection and itchy
DO AND DON’T IN EYELASH EXTENSION AFTERCARE ROUTINE:
DO:
- Wash lashes daily (after the first 48 hours): The most critical eyelash extension aftercare guideline is to wash your lashes every day. However, everyday washing appears to be the step that people skip the most! If you are a lash artist, tell your clients that they have to wash their lashes daily and it’s wrong to think that they cannot touch the eyelashes
- Keep the lashes dry for the first 48 hours: Water can have an effect on the adhesive, making it fragile and easy to break. Avoid taking a shower, cleaning your eyes, or getting your eyelash extensions wet for the first 48 hours following application
- Brush them regularly: Brushing keeps lashes looking their natural best, avoids unwelcome clumping, and removes any dust. You should brush from the middle of the extension to the end of the lash instead of starting at the base
- Get your lashes infilled after 2-3 weeks: When your lashes are 50% thinner, it’s time for you to have lash infills, normally 2-3 weeks after the application
DON’T:
- Touch or rub lashes much: Although it is alright to touch your extension, you have to avoid touching them too much as oils from your fingers end up on them, putting strain on the root
- Use oil-based products around the eyes: Oil can break down the chemical in the lash adhesive. Avoid using oil-based cosmetics and skin care products as much as possible for a greater retention
- Do not sleep on lashes: Lash artists should ask their clients whether they are face sleepers or not and make them aware that it will crush their lashes and cause retention issues
WHEN DO YOU NEED TO MEET LASH ARTISTS?
- If you have severe itching or red/swollen eyes in the first several days following application. This might be the result of an allergic response. Please contact your lash artists for the treatment
- If your eyes occasionally feel gritty and sandy, this might indicate that you need to clean your lashes more frequently/properly. Your technician may examine your lash line and advise you on the best approach to clean it.
- Lashes fall out unusually in the first few days:
